A Bit About Burlington County
Burlington County, covering 827 square miles, is the largest county in New Jersey . According to the US Census Bureau, the estimated population of Burlington County in 2001 was 432,121. The county is 529,351 acres and bordered by Mercer County, Monmouth County, Ocean County, Atlantic County, and Camden County.
Forty political subdivisions are in existance; 31 townships, six boroughs, and 3 cities. Mount Holly is the home of the county seat. Burlington County is rich in historic lore, with an excellent highway system, and it holds an irresistible charm for those that visit. The pine woods, highlighted with streams and lakes and filled with wildlife, attract many tourists.
Burlington County has been one of the leading agricultural counties throughout the country for decades. When the first settlers arrived, the cranberry was found growing in the wild. Burlington County is now one of the leading counties in the United states for cranberry production. The largest blueberries in the world were developed and are raised here in Burlington County as well. More land in Burlington County is devoted to farming than any other county in the state, with the primary industries being fruit and sweetcorn. Although the county is well known for its agriculture, there is considerable manufacturing, especially along the Delaware River.
