Archima is an open source AI architectural intelligence specification designed to help architects and designers move from an initial idea to a coordinated building design. Archima combines natural language interaction, architectural vision, spatial planning, parametric building models, 2D documentation, 3D modeling, rendering, schematics, materials, assemblies, and building systems into a unified design workflow. Rather than treating AI-generated images as the final product, Archima establishes the structured building model as the source of truth, allowing architectural decisions to remain connected throughout the design process.

Archima is designed for an exceptionally broad range of architectural possibilities, from conventional homes and multi-generational residences to underground structures, bunkers, rooftop patios, off-grid buildings, specialized structures, and complex architectural environments. Its core modules cover architectural vision and intent, design memory, architectural styles, spatial planning, geometry, building envelopes, structural systems, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire and life safety, site design, construction assemblies, materials, cost, construction sequencing, validation, documentation, and visualization. Optional plugin modules allow the system to expand with specialized architectural styles, engineering capabilities, environmental analysis, regional data, manufacturing systems, visualization tools, and other domain-specific capabilities without changing the core specification.

A defining feature of Archima is its Geographic Zoning & Regulatory Adaptation Module, which allows an architectural design to be evaluated and adapted for different geographic jurisdictions and their applicable zoning and regulatory requirements. A design can be modified for different setbacks, building heights, lot coverage, density, permitted uses, overlays, environmental restrictions, parking requirements, historic districts, flood zones, and other location-specific constraints while preserving the architect’s underlying design intent. Combined with change propagation, validation, provenance, professional review controls, and modular AI agents, Archima is intended to create an architectural intelligence system capable of following a project from vision to spatial design, from spatial design to coordinated building systems, and from coordinated systems to detailed architectural documentation.
