AuthenticAI is an open-source, locally hosted AI governance platform designed to provide a trusted control layer between artificial intelligence systems, autonomous agents, enterprise data, and external tools. Built around the principle of “Keeping Intelligence Local and Decisions Accountable,” AuthenticAI helps organizations deploy AI while maintaining control over what systems can access, which models they use, what actions they perform, and how decisions are governed.

AuthenticAI provides a comprehensive security and governance framework for modern AI applications, including Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems and agentic AI workflows. Its metadata filtering engine, data minimization controls, and retrieval trust scoring ensure that AI systems receive only authorized, relevant, and reliable information. By enforcing policies before data reaches AI models, AuthenticAI reduces privacy risks, prevents unnecessary data exposure, and improves the accuracy and reliability of AI-generated responses.

The platform introduces enterprise-grade governance for autonomous AI agents through agent permission lifecycle management and the MCP Governance Gateway. AI agents can be treated as managed identities with defined permissions, approved capabilities, and monitored activity. MCP governance provides a secure boundary between AI agents and the tools they use, ensuring that autonomous systems operate within clearly defined policies and cannot perform unauthorized actions.

AuthenticAI also provides intelligent model governance through its Model Routing Engine, allowing organizations to determine which AI models can process specific types of information. Sensitive or restricted data can remain within local or private models, while lower-risk requests can use approved external models when appropriate. Human Approval Workflows provide additional oversight for high-risk actions, ensuring that critical decisions remain accountable and reviewable.

Through its Governance Dashboard and audit capabilities, AuthenticAI delivers transparency into AI operations by tracking agent activity, data access, policy decisions, model usage, approvals, and security events.

This specification is released under the AGPL-3.0+ license and is free to use with required attribution under Section 7. Attribution-free deployments may obtain a Specification Branding License based on usage, scope, and deployment size.
