CodeDrop is an open-source system designed to make sending software as simple as sending a message. Instead of dealing with links, uploads, or app stores, users can select an executable file on their device and deliver it directly to another user with a single action. The experience is intentionally frictionless as there are no accounts, no personal data exchange, and no dependency on centralized storage. The goal is to make software sharing feel immediate and natural, whether it’s a utility, script, or full application.

At its core, CodeDrop uses a secure, peer-to-peer transmission model with optional encrypted relay support when direct connections aren’t available. Every transfer is packaged, encrypted, and verified end-to-end, ensuring that files arrive intact and untampered. A unique aspect of the system is its ephemeral addressing: each transfer generates a one-time code that expires based on a timeframe chosen by the sender. This keeps delivery controlled, temporary, and private, reducing exposure and eliminating persistent identifiers.

CodeDrop also focuses heavily on usability and readiness. Files are automatically bundled with necessary metadata and prepared so that the recipient receives something immediately usable, no extra steps, no confusion. Features like countdown timers, QR-based sharing, and cross-platform compatibility make it easy to send and receive across devices. By combining strong encryption, temporary access controls, and a streamlined user experience, CodeDrop turns file transmission into something fast, secure, and as effortless as everyday communication.

This specification is released under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 or later (AGPL-3.0+) and may be used freely with required attribution under Section 7. A Specification Branding License is available for attribution-free deployments, with fees based on usage, scope, and deployment size.
