ContentGraph is a WordPress-native relational content system that transforms traditional pages and posts into a structured, interconnected graph of knowledge. Instead of treating content as isolated documents, ContentGraph introduces relationships between pieces of content through a modular architecture built around Spec Containers. These containers function like lightweight, Git-inspired documentation repositories embedded directly within WordPress, while still respecting WordPress as the authoritative source for URLs, routing, and content ownership.

At the core of ContentGraph is the Spec Container system, which allows users to create structured documentation units with a file-tree-like hierarchy. Each container can hold multiple markdown-based nodes, enabling deeply organized documentation structures such as API references, software specifications, internal systems, or technical wikis. These containers can exist independently or be optionally linked to any WordPress page or post, giving users full flexibility in how structured content is organized and displayed.

ContentGraph also introduces a built-in navigation engine that automatically generates Git-style tree navigation for each Spec Container. This provides sidebar file browsing, breadcrumb paths, and hierarchical structure visualization without requiring manual configuration. Navigation is always scoped to the container itself, ensuring modularity and preventing global layout interference.

A key feature of ContentGraph is its embedding system, which allows users to place Spec Containers anywhere within WordPress content using blocks or shortcodes. This ensures full user control over layout and positioning, allowing structured documentation to be integrated seamlessly into posts, pages, or custom layouts. In addition, a theme-aware CSS inheritance system ensures that Spec Containers visually adapt to the active WordPress theme while still allowing scoped styling overrides when needed.

Together, these features make ContentGraph a powerful relational layer over WordPress content, enabling structured documentation, modular knowledge systems, and Git-like organization patterns without leaving the WordPress ecosystem.

This specification is released under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 or later (AGPL-3.0+) and may be used freely with required attribution under Section 7. A Specification Branding License is available for attribution-free deployments, with fees based on usage, scope, and deployment size.
