DrivePass is an open-source vehicle access and control platform designed to replace traditional key fobs with secure, encrypted digital authentication. Built under the AGPL-3.0+ license, it focuses on restoring ownership and control to vehicle operators by removing reliance on proprietary manufacturer systems, subscriptions, and cloud-locked ecosystems. The system is designed to work across both modern and legacy vehicles through a retrofit-first hardware approach.

At its core, DrivePass enables secure lock and unlock, encrypted remote start, and identity-based driving authorization. Every action is protected through a zero-trust security model that includes end-to-end encryption, hardware root-of-trust key storage, and cryptographic challenge–response authentication. Mandatory two-factor authentication (2FA) and biometric confirmation are required for sensitive operations such as remote start or administrative access, ensuring that only verified users can control the vehicle.

Beyond basic access control, DrivePass introduces vehicle intelligence features that enhance safety and usability. These include presence-aware passive entry, secure drive authorization before gear engagement, real-time encrypted vehicle diagnostics, and state monitoring for doors, ignition, and engine status. The platform also supports family, fleet, and caregiver permission systems, enabling flexible but controlled access sharing without sacrificing security.

DrivePass also integrates optional AI and automation capabilities designed to assist rather than surveil. These include anomaly detection for unusual access patterns, adaptive authentication based on risk context, and intelligent automation for remote start and climate control. All intelligent features are designed with a strong preference for local execution to preserve privacy and reduce reliance on external services.
