Effortless OS is an open-source AGPL-3.0+ operating system designed to reduce unnecessary work by treating time, effort, and attention as measurable resources. Instead of focusing on productivity in the traditional sense, it focuses on elimination, delegation, and automation as primary design strategies. The system evaluates how time is spent across both professional and personal life, then continuously identifies what can be removed, simplified, or externalized without degrading outcomes or identity.

At its core, Effortless OS begins with a time-value engine that calculates a user’s effective hourly rate and compares it against the real cost of tasks, including cognitive load, context switching, and opportunity cost. From there, the delegation engine determines whether work should be performed personally, assigned to another person, automated through tools, or eliminated entirely. This creates a structured decision layer for everyday choices that are often made intuitively and inefficiently.

The system extends beyond simple optimization through its Life Simulation Mode, which models multiple possible futures based on different delegation and automation strategies. Users can simulate scenarios such as aggressive outsourcing, balanced workload reduction, or identity-preserving optimization. Each simulation projects long-term outcomes across time freedom, income stability, stress levels, and personal satisfaction, allowing users to evaluate not just efficiency but life trajectory tradeoffs.

Effortless OS also incorporates deeper behavioral systems such as identity retention modeling, regret prediction, and attention cost analysis. These components ensure that optimization does not unintentionally remove meaningful or grounding activities. By combining financial logic with psychological and experiential modeling, Effortless OS functions as both a decision engine and a reflective system for designing a more intentional and less overloaded way of living.

This specification is released under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 or later (AGPL-3.0+) and may be used freely with required attribution under Section 7. A Specification Branding License is available for attribution-free deployments, with fees based on usage, scope, and deployment size.
