NexusGrid

A Universal Standard for Network Choice.

NexusGrid is a modular, provider-neutral specification designed to create a universal connectivity layer between users, devices, vehicles, edge AI systems, and the telecommunications networks available around them. Instead of permanently tying a device to one carrier, ISP, Wi-Fi ecosystem, or connectivity technology, NexusGrid allows compatible systems to discover and evaluate available networks and select connectivity according to location, availability, performance, cost, security, reliability, and user-defined preferences.

A central feature of NexusGrid is dynamic network choice. A device can continuously evaluate available Wi-Fi, cellular, satellite, Ethernet, mesh, private, community, and other compatible networks. The strongest signal is not automatically considered the best connection. NexusGrid can instead evaluate bandwidth, latency, packet loss, congestion, reliability, security, cost, and availability to determine which connection best satisfies the active policy. Where hardware and underlying protocols permit it, NexusGrid can also maintain multiple connections and transition between them to improve continuity and resilience.

NexusGrid is built around user choice and freedom from vendor lock-in. Users can establish preferred providers, excluded providers, maximum costs, minimum performance requirements, security requirements, privacy preferences, and automatic switching rules. Provider-specific functionality remains modular, meaning a provider can be added through an adapter without becoming a permanent dependency of the core system. This approach is intended to make the provider replaceable while preserving the user’s connectivity environment.

The specification also treats edge AI and vehicles as first-class connectivity environments. Edge AI systems can use standardized connectivity information to determine whether they need lower latency, greater bandwidth, higher reliability, lower cost, or redundant connections for a particular task. Vehicles can continuously adapt connectivity as they move between coverage areas, potentially moving between Wi-Fi, cellular, satellite, and other networks without requiring applications to directly manage individual providers.

NexusGrid’s modular architecture allows additional capabilities to be added through optional plugins for providers, Wi-Fi, cellular, satellite, mesh networks, vehicles, edge AI, privacy, security, geographic intelligence, and cost optimization. This keeps the core specification technology-neutral while allowing the ecosystem to evolve as new connectivity technologies emerge.

The goal of NexusGrid is simple: a universal standard for network choice, where connectivity follows the user and the device rather than forcing the user to follow a particular provider.

This specification is released under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 or later (AGPL-3.0+) and is free to use with required attribution. Attribution-free deployment is available through a Specification Branding License, with fees based on deployment scope and network size.
