OpenEnergyOS is a specification-driven energy transition platform designed to help municipalities, states, and national governments model and execute the shift away from oil dependency. Instead of treating energy planning as disconnected studies or static reports, it treats the entire system as a living set of interconnected specifications that define how infrastructure, economics, physics, and regulation interact.
At its core, OpenEnergyOS provides a full-stack simulation environment for energy systems. It models electricity, transportation, heating, industry, and distributed energy resources as a unified system, allowing users to test long-term transition scenarios under real-world constraints. This includes oil dependency mapping, electrification pathways, grid stability analysis, cost modeling, and infrastructure retirement planning, all operating within a consistent and auditable framework.
The platform also includes economic and optimization layers that evaluate lifecycle costs, infrastructure investment strategies, and system-wide efficiency. It can compare scenarios across multiple decades, helping decision-makers understand not only what is technically possible, but what is financially and operationally optimal at scale.
A legal and regulatory alignment layer ensures that proposed transitions remain compliant with existing statutes while identifying conflicts that may block deployment. It uses primary government sources and court rulings to map constraints and highlight where regulatory updates or reforms may be needed to enable energy modernization.

This specification is released under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 or later (AGPL-3.0+) and may be used freely with required attribution under Section 7. A Specification Branding License is available for attribution-free deployments, with fees based on usage, scope, and deployment size.
