Orvian is an AI-driven personal financial operating system designed to bring structure, automation, and intelligence to everyday money management. Instead of treating finances as a single balance, Orvian organizes funds into a layered system of virtual envelopes that represent spending categories, savings goals, and tax obligations. It operates as a non-custodial ledger layer on top of existing bank accounts, meaning users retain full control of their money while Orvian provides structure, automation, and insight.

At its core, Orvian introduces a programmable envelope system that allows users to define how income is allocated and managed. Standard envelopes provide flexible budgeting categories that can be created and adjusted freely, while goal-based envelopes enable users to set specific financial targets with timelines and AI-assisted forecasting. These goal envelopes can be modified or canceled by the user, with funds automatically reallocated according to user-defined preferences.

A key differentiator in Orvian is its governed tax envelope system, which enforces structured compliance behavior independent of user modification. The system automatically allocates a portion of interest income into tax-specific envelopes, applies quarterly scheduling logic, and locks those funds until the tax year is finalized on January 6th. This creates a deterministic, rules-first layer for tax readiness that operates separately from user-controlled financial planning.

Beyond envelopes, Orvian integrates an AI financial intelligence layer that classifies transactions, forecasts cash flow, evaluates goal completion probability, and identifies tax funding risks. A rules engine governs all financial behavior with a clear hierarchy, ensuring that tax rules remain non-overridable while preserving flexibility in goal and standard envelope systems. Together, these components create a transparent, extensible financial OS that turns income into a structured, intelligent flow rather than an unmanaged balance.

This specification is released under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 or later (AGPL-3.0+) and may be used freely with required attribution under Section 7. A Specification Branding License is available for attribution-free deployments, with fees based on usage, scope, and deployment size.
