The Shield Against Document Fraud
ProofShield is an open-source document authenticity and fraud prevention system designed to establish trust in digital and physical documents. As AI-generated images and advanced editing tools make document forgery increasingly difficult to detect, ProofShield provides a verification layer that allows organizations and individuals to determine whether a document is authentic, altered, or unverifiable.
At the core of ProofShield is a Certified Mirror Image system that creates a trusted reference version of an original document. Each registered document receives a unique identity through cryptographic fingerprints, visual fingerprints, and provenance records. When a document image is submitted for verification, ProofShield compares it against the certified original and provides a visible authenticity status through a Certified Authentic Seal or an alteration warning when changes are detected.
ProofShield includes an AI Manipulation Detection Layer designed to identify document changes created through generative AI systems and advanced image editing technologies. The system analyzes image structures, pixel-level differences, rendering inconsistencies, synthetic replacements, and other forensic indicators to detect unauthorized modifications. Any detected alterations can be visibly highlighted, providing transparent evidence of where and how a document has changed.
The platform is built with privacy and interoperability in mind. Privacy-Preserving Verification allows authenticity checks to occur without unnecessary exposure of sensitive document information. Through the ProofShield API, applications, organizations, and platforms can integrate document verification capabilities into existing workflows, including enterprise systems, identity platforms, document management tools, and AI-based applications.
ProofShield also supports hardware security integration through trusted cameras, secure scanners, Trusted Platform Modules (TPM), Hardware Security Modules (HSM), and secure enclaves. These capabilities enable stronger verification from the moment a document is captured through its entire lifecycle, helping establish a trusted chain from creation to verification.
Designed as a modular and extensible architecture, ProofShield supports compatibility across devices, operating systems, cameras, scanners, and software platforms. The system provides an open foundation for building trusted document infrastructure while ensuring that certified originals remain verifiable and unauthorized alterations become visible.
