PureScript

Human Writing. Human Privacy.

PureScript is an open-source encrypted document writer built for a world where privacy can no longer be treated as optional. Designed as a secure alternative to traditional office suites like LibreOffice Writer and Apache OpenOffice Writer, PureScript combines modern document editing with end-to-end encryption to ensure that only authorized humans can access the contents of a file. Every document is protected directly at the file level, allowing it to remain secure regardless of whether it is shared through email, messaging platforms, cloud storage, or social media.

At its core, PureScript focuses on the idea of “Human Writing. Human Privacy.” Unlike conventional document editors that rely heavily on cloud infrastructure or platform trust, PureScript uses a zero-trust architecture where security travels with the document itself. Files are encrypted by default using modern cryptographic standards such as AES-256-GCM, Ed25519 digital signatures, and X25519 key exchange. This means documents remain private even when stored on untrusted systems or transmitted through insecure channels. Authors can also cryptographically sign documents, providing proof of authenticity and protection against tampering or forgery.

PureScript is designed to provide a complete writing experience rather than functioning only as a secure vault. The editor supports rich text formatting, embedded media, multilingual writing systems, and a wide range of font styles comparable to major office suites. Documents can contain self-embedded fonts to ensure consistent rendering across platforms, and the project is being designed with GPU-accelerated text rendering for smooth performance and advanced visual privacy features. Optional human-focused protections such as anti-scraping rendering layers and secure viewing modes further reinforce the project’s mission of keeping written communication readable by people rather than automated systems.

Another major feature of PureScript is its encrypted collaboration system. Multiple users can edit and review documents together while the underlying content remains encrypted at all times. Servers facilitating collaboration never have access to the raw document data, preserving privacy even in shared workspaces. The platform is also offline-first, allowing users to create, edit, and manage documents entirely without internet connectivity. Cross-platform support for Linux, Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS ensures that secure writing remains accessible everywhere.

As an AGPL-licensed open-source project, PureScript is intended to become a transparent and community-driven standard for private digital writing. The project aims to provide journalists, researchers, developers, activists, businesses, and everyday users with a trustworthy alternative to surveillance-oriented document ecosystems. By combining strong encryption, document authenticity, modern editing capabilities, and human-centered privacy protections, PureScript represents a new vision for secure communication in the digital age.
