PurposeHarness is a universal, modular specification for constructing purpose-built AI and agent harnesses for virtually any industry, workflow, task, or environment. Universal by Design. PurposeHarness enables users to describe what they need in natural language and have the system identify, assemble, configure, and produce the appropriate harness without requiring advanced knowledge of AI agents, orchestration, infrastructure, or programming.

PurposeHarness uses a modular architecture so each harness can be customized to its specific purpose. Modules can provide tools, agents, workflows, memory, context management, data sources, permissions, security, monitoring, provenance, integrations, and execution capabilities. The constructor can select only the modules necessary for a particular use case while allowing advanced users to modify, replace, extend, or create modules as requirements evolve.

A core feature is automatic governance and legal-module selection. Based on the purpose, industry, jurisdiction, data, users, and actions involved, PurposeHarness can identify relevant legal, regulatory, privacy, consent, disclosure, records, licensing, and other governance requirements and incorporate the necessary modules into the constructed harness. The system is designed to identify uncertainty and requirements for human or professional review rather than treating automated analysis as a guarantee of legal compliance.

Human-in-the-loop consent and oversight are foundational to PurposeHarness. Actions can be configured to require authorization, review, acknowledgment, or consent before execution, with permissions and approvals scoped to specific actions and recorded for accountability. PurposeHarness is designed to make sophisticated harness construction accessible to beginners while providing the modularity, adaptability, governance, and control required by advanced users and complex operational environments.

This specification is released under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 or later (AGPL-3.0+) and is free to use with required attribution. Attribution-free deployment is available through a Specification Branding License, with fees based on deployment scope and network size.
