TerraTruth

Where Accuracy Meets Accessibility

TerraTruth is an open-source, comprehensive geological survey database designed to make reliable Earth science data accessible to everyone. Built around the principle of “Where Accuracy Meets Accessibility,” TerraTruth brings geological information from across the world into a unified, searchable, and transparent platform. It is designed for scientists, researchers, engineers, educators, students, developers, governments, industry professionals, and the public, providing access to geological information without restricting its usefulness to specialized audiences.

TerraTruth is designed to cover the full breadth of Earth science data, including rocks and minerals, geological formations, stratigraphy, soils, sediments, fossils, faults, earthquakes, tectonic activity, volcanoes, groundwater, aquifers, hydrology, mining and mineral resources, geophysics, caves and karst systems, geological hazards, environmental geology, boreholes, subsurface structures, satellite and aerial imagery, LiDAR, terrain data, and three-dimensional geological models. Interactive maps, geological time visualization, cross-sections, spatial analysis, advanced search, downloadable datasets, and GIS interoperability allow users to explore relationships between geological features rather than viewing individual datasets in isolation.

A defining feature of TerraTruth is its emphasis on data provenance, verification, and transparency. Each dataset can retain information about its original source, collection date, contributor, processing history, version, methodology, confidence, uncertainty, and verification status. TerraTruth is designed to distinguish measured observations from interpretations, historical information from current information, and authoritative source data from computational or AI-generated analysis. Automated validation, data-quality assessment, duplicate detection, source tracking, version history, and expert and community review can help maintain the integrity of the database while preserving access to the original source material.

TerraTruth uses a modular architecture so that new geological disciplines, datasets, analytical capabilities, and integrations can be added without redesigning the entire platform. Specialized modules can provide AI-assisted geological analysis, remote-sensing interpretation, mineral and fossil identification, anomaly detection, research assistance, field-data collection, citizen science, scientific literature integration, and geological modeling. Open APIs, standard geospatial formats, GIS integration, public datasets, developer tools, self-hosting capabilities, and a plugin system allow TerraTruth to become an extensible foundation for global Earth science. Its goal is not simply to create another geological map, but to establish an open, verifiable, continuously evolving knowledge infrastructure for understanding the Earth.
