TokenCycle 2.0
Circular Infrastructure, Rewarded
TokenCycle 2.0 is an open-source modular infrastructure specification for cities, municipalities, communities, utilities, and circular economy operators. It provides a framework for connecting waste collection, material recovery, recycling, composting, anaerobic digestion, waste-to-energy, energy systems, data infrastructure, artificial intelligence, IoT networks, digital twins, marketplaces, and community reward systems.
The specification is designed around interoperable modules rather than a single implementation. Deployments may begin with a limited set of capabilities and expand as infrastructure, data availability, funding, and community participation increase.
Specification Goals
TokenCycle 2.0 is designed to:
- Reduce landfill dependency
- Increase material recovery and reuse
- Support recycling and composting infrastructure
- Convert appropriate waste streams into useful energy
- Connect recovered materials with local markets
- Monitor waste and resource flows
- Optimize collection and processing operations
- Provide transparent environmental and operational data
- Reward measurable circular economy participation
- Support resilient infrastructure and emergency operations
- Enable local and regional circular economy networks
- Provide open interfaces between physical and digital infrastructure
- Support municipal, community, cooperative, and private-sector deployments
- Avoid unnecessary vendor lock-in through interoperable standards
Design Principles
Modular Architecture
Each TokenCycle capability is implemented as an independent module with defined interfaces, inputs, outputs, permissions, and operational requirements.
Interoperability
Modules should communicate through documented APIs, event systems, data schemas, and standardized interfaces wherever practical.
Local-First Operation
Critical infrastructure should remain capable of operating locally when connectivity to external services is unavailable.
Human Oversight
AI, automated systems, token systems, and operational optimization should remain subject to configurable human oversight and governance.
Transparency
Operational, environmental, material, energy, and reward data should be available at appropriate levels of public transparency while protecting personal, commercially sensitive, and security-sensitive information.
Safety
Physical processing systems must comply with applicable environmental, occupational, electrical, fire, hazardous-material, energy, and public safety requirements.
Extensibility
Optional plugins should allow deployments to add specialized capabilities without modifying the core modules.
