BioTooth is an AGPL-3.0+ open-source specification for AI-assisted dental research and discovery, built around the goal of preserving, repairing, reinforcing, and potentially regenerating natural teeth. It provides a modular research framework that can investigate dental biomaterials, pharmacological agents, biological mechanisms, regenerative approaches, and alternative procedures across areas such as enamel, dentin, pulp, cracked teeth, dental caries, and periodontal tissues. BioTooth is designed to organize and explore the growing body of research surrounding regenerative dentistry, biomaterials, tissue engineering, and biological approaches to dental repair.

A central feature of BioTooth is its scientific and patent discovery system. Before identifying an approach as a potential discovery, BioTooth searches existing scientific literature, historical research, patents, patent families, clinical studies, and related fields to determine what has already been investigated. It connects patents to the scientific research behind them, reconstructs discovery timelines, identifies prior publications and overlooked research, and distinguishes scientific evidence from patent claims. This allows researchers to see what is already known, what may have been overlooked, and where meaningful opportunities for further research may exist.

When BioTooth encounters a promising proprietary material, compound, formulation, or procedure, its Alternative Discovery Engine searches for other scientifically relevant pathways rather than ending the investigation. It can identify functionally similar materials, alternative biological mechanisms, different formulations, expired or abandoned technologies, previously published research, and combinations of existing materials that may warrant further investigation. The system can also evaluate biocompatibility, toxicity, mechanical properties, regenerative potential, evidence quality, regulatory considerations, and patent constraints, while clearly distinguishing a scientific possibility from a clinically validated treatment or a legal determination of patent freedom to operate.

BioTooth is designed as a continuous research infrastructure rather than a single-purpose search tool. Its modular architecture can include literature discovery, patent intelligence, prior-art analysis, biomaterial discovery, pharmacological discovery, remineralization, dentin regeneration, pulp preservation, cracked-tooth research, regenerative dentistry, safety and toxicology, regulatory intelligence, knowledge graphs, evidence ranking, research provenance, and human scientific review. New evidence can continuously update the knowledge base and change the ranking of potential research candidates. The overall objective is simple: Search the Science. Discover the Possibilities.

This specification is released under AGPL-3.0+ and is free to use with required Section 7 attribution. Attribution-free deployment is available through a Specification Branding License, with fees based on deployment scope and network size.
