CipherMind is an open, modular specification for building private, human-controlled AI and multi-agent networks. Designed around the principle that people should remain in control of their artificial intelligence, CipherMind places human decision making at the center of every consequential operation. The architecture supports multiple AI models, specialized agents, tools, plugins, devices, and services while maintaining clear boundaries between what AI can recommend and what only the user can authorize. Built for extensibility and interoperability, CipherMind is designed to support local, self-hosted, distributed, and remote AI environments without requiring users to surrender ownership of their data or intelligence.

Privacy and security are foundational rather than optional features. CipherMind provides a Privacy First architecture with encrypted communications, protected conversation storage, controlled context access, credential isolation, permission management, and security monitoring. A robust authentication and device identity system protects access to the user’s AI environment, including multi-factor authentication, passkeys, trusted devices, session management, device authorization, and suspicious-login detection. Login events can notify users of the device, IP address, authentication method, and approximate geographic location, while sensitive authentication information remains isolated from ordinary AI conversations and agents. Every module, agent, plugin, and tool inherits the system’s core privacy, security, and authorization boundaries.

CipherMind is designed to create continuity across conversations and devices. Each new conversation can be stored as its own searchable file, allowing the system to index keywords, topics, projects, decisions, agents, modules, tools, and activity. When a conversation resumes, CipherMind can identify relevant historical context, restore the appropriate working environment, and notify the user which modules and sources are being accessed. A device synchronization system allows users to import one, several, or all conversations from related devices, with encrypted synchronization, conflict detection, provenance preservation, import and export capabilities, and automatic archiving when introducing a new device. Secure remote access extends this continuity across authorized devices through a complete multi-purpose interface for conversations, agents, modules, tools, devices, approvals, archives, security, and system administration.

CipherMind also provides an extensible ecosystem for AI capabilities and multi-agent collaboration. When the AI determines that a required tool or capability is unavailable, it can explain what is missing and present the user with compatible installation options, including open-source alternatives, while requiring human authorization before installation or activation. Agents can collaborate, delegate tasks, select tools, analyze information, and coordinate workflows, but cannot independently expand their permissions or bypass human authority. A continuous activity and provenance system records important actions, context access, tool usage, module activation, authentication events, synchronization, remote access, decisions, approvals, and security events. Together, these capabilities create an AI environment designed around privacy, portability, transparency, interoperability, and human authority, giving users an AI network that can evolve with them while allowing them to Think Freely.

This specification is licensed under AGPL-3.0+ and is free to use with required Section 7 attribution. Attribution-free deployment is available through a Specification Branding License, with fees based on use and deployment scope.
