Building the Infrastructure of Trust
The Foundation for Deterministic Computing (FDC) is an open standards foundation focused on redefining how modern computing systems are designed, executed, and governed. Its core goal is to move critical digital infrastructure away from opaque, probabilistic behavior toward systems that are reproducible, auditable, and explicitly governed. Rather than existing as a single platform or product, FDC defines a modular ecosystem of interoperable specifications that can be implemented across AI systems, distributed applications, enterprise infrastructure, and autonomous agents.
At the center of FDC is deterministic execution through OpenCore, which ensures that identical inputs under identical configurations produce identical outputs. This is extended through OpenState and OpenVersion, which provide full state management and version control for systems that must remain reproducible over time. OpenTrace and OpenProof introduce end-to-end lineage and cryptographic verification, allowing every computation, decision, and workflow to be reconstructed and validated. Together, these core layers establish a foundation where system behavior is not only predictable but also provably consistent.
Beyond execution, FDC defines a structured intelligence layer through OpenKnowledge, OpenReason, OpenMemory, and OpenRetrieval. These modules ensure that knowledge is traceable, reasoning is structured and explainable, and information retrieval is reproducible rather than ad hoc. OpenConfidence adds uncertainty modeling, enabling systems to express reliability in a standardized and measurable way. This layer is designed to make intelligent systems transparent, interpretable, and grounded in verifiable sources.
On top of this sits a governance and trust framework that includes OpenAudit, OpenIdentity, OpenSignature, OpenTrust, and OpenLineage. These specifications ensure that every action in the system can be attributed, logged, verified, and traced back through a complete lineage of decisions and data. Governance is further extended through OpenPolicy, OpenEthics, OpenAuthority, OpenReview, and OpenAppeal, which introduce structured human oversight, policy enforcement, ethical constraints, and dispute resolution mechanisms.
Finally, FDC supports controlled operational complexity through OpenWorkflow, OpenConsensus, and OpenAutonomy, allowing systems to coordinate multi-step processes, group decision-making, and bounded autonomous behavior while remaining fully auditable. Optional modules such as OpenRandom and OpenEntropy allow for explicit, governed nondeterminism when needed, ensuring that even randomness is never implicit or untracked. Together, these features form a comprehensive framework for building the infrastructure of trust for the next generation of computing systems.
This specification is released under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 or later (AGPL-3.0+) and may be used freely with required attribution under Section 7. A Specification Branding License is available for attribution-free deployments, with fees based on usage, scope, and deployment size.
