GentleCardia

GentleCardia is an open-source, modular specification for creating the next generation of cardiac biosensing infrastructure. Released under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 or later (AGPL-3.0+), GentleCardia provides a transparent framework for designing, building, and extending ECG and biosignal systems without dependence on proprietary platforms. Instead of defining a single device, GentleCardia establishes an interoperable foundation that hardware developers, researchers, educators, and software engineers can use to create safe, adaptable, and community-driven health technologies.

The specification is built around a safety-first modular architecture that separates cardiac signal acquisition, analog processing, embedded firmware, communication, data management, visualization, security, and artificial intelligence into independent components. This allows individual modules to be improved, replaced, or expanded without redesigning the entire system. The architecture supports open hardware implementations, precision analog front ends, isolated patient-side electronics, low-power embedded systems, real-time signal processing, and secure communication pathways.

GentleCardia includes advanced biosignal capabilities such as ECG waveform acquisition, signal quality analysis, noise reduction, QRS detection, heart-rate calculation, heart-rate variability analysis, AI-assisted pattern recognition, and explainable analysis workflows. The specification supports local-first and privacy-focused deployments while enabling future integrations with wearable devices, remote monitoring platforms, research environments, and multi-sensor health systems.

Designed as open infrastructure for human health, GentleCardia focuses on transparency, interoperability, and long-term innovation. By providing open standards for cardiac data, device communication, software development kits, and AI integration, the project enables a global community of builders to create new health technologies that are understandable, extensible, and designed around the safety and dignity of the people they serve.

This specification is released under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 or later (AGPL-3.0+) with Section 7 attribution requirements. Attribution-free deployment is available through a Specification Branding License, with fees based on usage, deployment scope, and network size.
