GuardianNX

Always Watching, Never Intrusive.

GuardianNX is a modular, open source home security operating system built under the AGPL-3.0+ license with a strict focus on eliminating vendor lock-in at every level of the stack. Instead of relying on a single proprietary ecosystem, it is designed as a distributed framework of interchangeable hardware modules and software components that communicate through open, well-documented protocols. This allows homeowners and developers to build systems that remain fully functional, transparent, and independently maintainable over time.

At its core, GuardianNX combines edge AI surveillance with a decentralized sensor and device network. Cameras and sensors process data locally whenever possible, using on-device AI for tasks such as face recognition, motion detection, and anomaly identification. Rather than sending raw data to external servers, the system prioritizes encrypted local processing, ensuring that sensitive home activity never needs to leave the premises unless explicitly configured by the user.

The platform’s modular architecture extends to its hardware design, where each function—whether sensing, computing, communication, or actuation—is treated as a replaceable module. This means users can swap out cameras, sensors, compute nodes, or networking components without breaking system compatibility, as long as they adhere to the open interface standards. This approach ensures long-term adaptability and prevents dependency on any single manufacturer or proprietary device ecosystem.

GuardianNX also includes a fully encrypted communication and control layer, supporting secure mesh networking across devices and optional satellite-based emergency failover for critical situations. Its automation engine enables intelligent responses to security events, such as locking doors, activating deterrence systems, or escalating alerts when unknown or suspicious activity is detected. Together, these features create a resilient, privacy-first security platform designed to operate reliably in both connected and fully offline environments.
