Horizon Runtime is an AGPL-3.0+ open source universal AI inference runtime specification for efficient, adaptive, hardware-independent execution of current and future artificial intelligence models.
The specification defines a modular architecture in which core capabilities provide the foundational runtime while optional plugin modules extend hardware support, model compatibility, precision formats, optimization strategies, integrations, and deployment capabilities.
Purpose
Horizon Runtime is designed to provide a universal execution layer for artificial intelligence without depending on a specific model family, hardware vendor, inference framework, numerical format, or deployment environment.
The runtime is intended to support local devices, workstations, servers, enterprise infrastructure, edge systems, private clouds, hybrid environments, and distributed clusters.
The primary design objective is to maximize useful AI computation while minimizing unnecessary memory consumption, latency, energy consumption, and hardware requirements.
