A Modular Standard for Human-Guided AI
Human Decision Specification (HDS) is an open, modular standard designed to ensure that AI systems operate under clear human direction and oversight. Instead of allowing AI to act autonomously based on assumptions, HDS requires systems to first discover, validate, and confirm human intent before any meaningful recommendation or action is taken. This creates a structured governance layer where AI serves as an assistant for reasoning, compliance checking, and workflow support, while humans retain final authority over decisions.
At its core, HDS introduces a Human Intent Engine that guides interaction through structured questioning and intent confirmation. The AI is required to ask clarifying questions, detect missing or ambiguous information, and ensure that the user’s intent is fully understood and explicitly approved. Once intent is confirmed, the system evaluates legal, regulatory, policy, and operational constraints before generating recommendations. This ensures that every output is both context-aware and compliance-aware.
The specification is built around a modular architecture that allows independent components to be added, replaced, or extended without breaking the system. Modules such as Lexara for legal governance, compliance engines, risk analysis systems, and workflow orchestration tools all plug into the core intent-driven framework. Each module has clearly defined responsibilities and must operate within the bounds of human-approved intent.
HDS also emphasizes transparency and auditability. Every stage of the decision-making process, including questions asked, intent confirmations, recommendations, and approvals, is recorded in an auditable structure. This makes it suitable for regulated environments where accountability, traceability, and explainability are required. By combining modular design with strict human-in-the-loop requirements, HDS creates a foundation for building trustworthy, governable AI systems that scale across industries without sacrificing human control.
