A Foundation for Every Generation
LivingTrust Standard is an open source specification designed to provide a consistent, modular architecture for independently established living trusts. Its guiding principle is “A Foundation for Every Generation.” The standard emphasizes financial stability, preservation of principal, stable income, predictable monthly distributions, and long-term continuity rather than speculative growth. Each trust operates independently, while newly established trusts can use the same standardized architecture and rules.
The standard includes core modules for trust governance, financial stability, personal trusts, independent family trusts, distributions, beneficiary succession, minor and legally incapable beneficiaries, annual residency, cost-of-living calculations, trust administration, and gift compliance. Beneficiary succession follows a defined hierarchy, beginning with the youngest qualifying family members and progressing through sibling and extended-family generations when necessary. When no qualifying family beneficiaries exist, the New Generation Access Module provides a deterministic process for identifying qualifying children during a one-year New Year Beneficiary Window, with no retroactive additions after the determination period closes.
A central feature is the Cost of Living Module, which establishes monthly support using state-level averages based on the beneficiary’s declared state of residence. The calculation includes a two-bedroom apartment, utilities including internet, automobile payment, automobile insurance, food, clothing, and gasoline. Residency must be declared before January 1 and governs the calculation for the upcoming calendar year. An AI research module can gather, verify, document, and version the applicable state averages, while remaining separate from beneficiary and trust decision-making authority.
LivingTrust Standard also provides optional plugin modules for advanced investment analysis, expanded cost-of-living research, beneficiary verification, financial reporting, data-source monitoring, compliance monitoring, notifications, and trustee dashboards. The architecture is designed to keep calculations, beneficiary rules, data sources, and administrative actions auditable and reproducible.
