LocalMind is a modular, locally hosted AI platform designed to bring advanced artificial intelligence directly to the machines that run it. Rather than depending on a centralized SaaS provider, LocalMind is designed to operate across laptops, desktops, workstations, home servers, edge devices, and future computing platforms. Its architecture separates models, inference, memory, knowledge, agents, tools, hardware, and optimization into independently upgradeable modules, allowing the platform to evolve without requiring replacement of the entire system. LocalMind includes an adaptive inference architecture that continuously evaluates the available hardware, models, workloads, and execution strategies to determine how each task should be processed. It can support CPUs, GPUs, NPUs, TPUs, FPGAs, ASICs, RISC-V systems, and other accelerators through hardware abstraction and capability discovery. Features such as quantization, mixed precision, intelligent caching, dynamic batching, parallel execution, memory optimization, workload routing, and resource-aware scheduling are designed to maximize performance from the hardware available. Instead of assuming that one model, runtime, or accelerator is always optimal, LocalMind can select and optimize the combination most appropriate for the task.

A central feature of LocalMind is its ability to evolve its knowledge and capabilities as new innovation becomes available. Its knowledge evolution system can identify relevant research, algorithms, models, tools, standards, hardware developments, and optimization techniques, then evaluate them through validation, sandbox testing, benchmarking, and performance comparison before integration. Task-specific knowledge bases, provenance tracking, versioning, evidence evaluation, knowledge-gap detection, and innovation management allow the platform to improve its ability to perform assigned tasks without treating every new piece of information as automatically trustworthy or useful. This creates a controlled pathway for transforming new innovation into validated capabilities.

LocalMind is designed for continuous evolution through modular upgrades, replaceable components, versioned interfaces, compatibility checking, staged deployment, performance monitoring, and rollback capabilities. Models, inference runtimes, agents, retrieval systems, memory systems, knowledge packages, plugins, drivers, and hardware accelerators can evolve independently while remaining connected through standardized interfaces. The platform can benchmark new capabilities against existing configurations and retain improvements that demonstrate measurable value in latency, throughput, quality, resource efficiency, energy use, or task performance. Through its modular software architecture and open hardware compatibility, LocalMind aims to provide a durable foundation for local AI that can adapt to new models, new hardware, new research, and new computing architectures rather than becoming obsolete with the next generation of technology.

This specification is released under AGPL-3.0+ and is free to use with required Section 7 attribution. Attribution-free deployment is available through a Specification Branding License, with fees based on deployment scope and network size.
