PsycheCross is an AGPL-3.0+ specification for an AI-assisted framework that explores how different modes of cognition can influence human thought, reactions, decisions, and outcomes. Its central model uses a symbolic cross to represent four directions of cognition: the left for logic and analytical reasoning, the right for emotion and relational awareness, the top for higher-order consciousness, reflection, values, and possibility, and the bottom for primitive survival-oriented responses such as fear, fight, flight, freeze, and fawn. PsycheCross treats these domains as a conceptual framework rather than literal anatomical regions of the brain, an important distinction given that popular left-brain/right-brain personality models substantially oversimplify how cognition actually works.

The core objective of PsycheCross is balance rather than suppression. The primitive mind is not treated as an enemy or something that should be eliminated; instinct can provide valuable information about perceived danger, boundaries, urgency, and self-protection. Instead, PsycheCross helps an AI identify when an instinctive reaction may be dominating the decision-making process and creates space for logical examination, emotional awareness, and higher-order reflection. Its features include primitive-response detection, fight-flight-freeze-fawn analysis, emotional-state recognition, evidence and assumption analysis, values exploration, perspective expansion, cognitive-bias detection, and identification of conflicts between different modes of thought.

PsycheCross provides an AI-driven reaction-to-response pathway that can transform an immediate reaction into a more conscious decision process. The system can identify a trigger, map the apparent influence of each quadrant, ask questions that activate underrepresented perspectives, examine potential consequences, simulate alternative responses, and compare immediate outcomes with longer-term possibilities. Its Cross Balance Engine can visualize which symbolic domain appears dominant, identify missing perspectives, and guide the user toward a more integrated assessment. Rather than telling the user what to believe or do, PsycheCross is designed to make the reasoning process more visible and preserve human agency throughout the decision.

At the center of the PsycheCross model is the + sign, representing integration and conscious choice. The ultimate goal is not to make the top quadrant overpower the bottom quadrant, but to allow logic, emotion, instinct, and higher awareness to communicate before a decision is made. PsycheCross seeks the highest reasonably achievable outcome by reducing unnecessary primitive dominance while preserving legitimate protective signals, expanding perspective, and bringing the four directions into balance. Its guiding principle is captured by its tagline: “When Instinct Speaks, Awareness Listens.” The center of the cross represents the moment when awareness creates enough space between reaction and action for a person to consciously choose their response.

This specification is licensed under AGPL-3.0+ and is free to use with required Section 7 attribution. Attribution-free deployment is available through a Specification Branding License, with fees based on use and deployment scope.
