PsycheCross is an AGPL-3.0+ specification for an AI-assisted cognitive framework that explores the interaction between logic, emotion, instinct, and higher awareness. It uses a symbolic four-direction cross to help identify cognitive influences, recognize disproportionate primitive responses, expand awareness, and support more integrated decision-making.
Purpose
PsycheCross provides a modular framework for AI systems that assist people in examining thoughts, reactions, decisions, conflicts, behaviors, and potential outcomes through four symbolic cognitive domains.
The framework represents:
- Left: Logical Mind
- Right: Emotional Mind
- Top: Higher Mind
- Bottom: Primitive Mind
The objective is not to suppress any quadrant. PsycheCross treats instinct, emotion, logic, and higher awareness as sources of information that can contribute to conscious choice.
The ultimate goal is represented by the + symbol, where all four directions are acknowledged and brought into balance.
PsycheCross is a symbolic cognitive framework and must not represent the four quadrants as literal anatomical regions of the brain or as direct measurements of neurological activity.
Core Principles
- Instinct provides information that can be examined through awareness.
- Primitive responses can protect against genuine threats but can also dominate reasoning when perceived threats become disproportionate or persistent.
- Logic provides analysis, evidence, structure, and consequence evaluation.
- Emotion provides information about feelings, relationships, needs, values, and meaning.
- Higher awareness provides perspective, reflection, purpose, possibility, and long-term consideration.
- No single quadrant should automatically be treated as superior.
- Higher awareness should integrate the other quadrants rather than simply suppress them.
- The AI should help distinguish reaction from conscious response.
- The AI should preserve human agency and avoid making personal decisions on behalf of the user.
- The system should seek the highest reasonably achievable integrated outcome.
- Balance is an ongoing process rather than a fixed cognitive state.
