Sentryx is a fully open-source, modular cloud backup and data protection system designed around one core idea: users should have complete ownership and control of their data without sacrificing scalability, security, or usability. Built under the AGPL-3.0+ license, it is designed to run in personal environments, distributed networks, and enterprise infrastructure while maintaining transparency and auditability at every layer.

At its core, Sentryx provides encrypted, versioned backups with strong client-side encryption, ensuring that data is protected before it ever leaves the user’s device. It supports incremental and full backups, deduplication, compression, and cross-platform client agents, allowing it to efficiently manage both small personal datasets and large-scale organizational storage needs. The system is built to be storage-agnostic, supporting S3-compatible backends and distributed storage architectures with replication, erasure coding, and lifecycle management.

Beyond basic backup functionality, Sentryx introduces advanced security and infrastructure features such as role-based access control, multi-factor authentication, immutable backup modes, and zero-trust architecture principles. These features are designed to protect against modern threats such as ransomware, unauthorized access, and data tampering. A dedicated audit and observability layer ensures that every action within the system can be tracked, monitored, and verified.

Sentryx also includes optional AI-assisted intelligence to improve backup efficiency and usability. This includes predictive backup scheduling, anomaly detection for suspicious file activity, and natural language restore capabilities that allow users to locate and recover data more intuitively.
