SymbolAtlas is an open architecture for the human imagination, designed to create a personalized AI-guided environment for exploring active imagination, symbolic understanding, and personal discovery. The specification is built around the idea that every individual has a unique dream language shaped by their experiences, emotions, memories, and personal associations. Rather than relying on universal symbol definitions, SymbolAtlas helps each person discover their own meanings through guided reflection, exploration, and conversation.

At its core, SymbolAtlas provides an active imagination tutor that teaches users how to engage with inner imagery as a “dream awake” practice. The AI assistant guides users through symbolic exploration, helping them describe imagery, recognize emotional patterns, ask meaningful questions, and discover heartfelt solutions to personal situations. The system acts as a facilitator, supporting the user’s own intuition and understanding rather than interpreting symbols on their behalf.

SymbolAtlas expands personal exploration beyond the internal world by connecting symbolic insights with external knowledge and real-world discovery. Through its mapping, retrieval, and geographic resonance modules, the system can identify nearby places, towns, regions, landmarks, educational resources, and areas of interest that may connect with the user’s personal symbols, meaningful names, and themes of exploration. These discoveries are not assigned predetermined meanings; instead, they provide opportunities for the user to reflect on what resonates and why.

The specification includes a modular architecture with components for personal symbol language development, symbolic knowledge graphs, semantic retrieval, destination discovery, map visualization, and reflection-based learning. Optional plugins extend the experience with dream journaling, guided meditation, archetype exploration, creative expression, nature discovery, cultural exploration, and community learning. SymbolAtlas creates an open framework where AI becomes a companion for understanding imagination, uncovering personal meaning, and building deeper connections between the inner world and the world around us.

This specification is released under the AGPL-3.0+ license and is free to use with required attribution. Attribution-free deployments may obtain a Specification Branding License, with fees based on usage, deployment scope, and environment size.
