Open. Auditable. Verifiable.
VeritasVote is an open-source, in-person voting machine project built to restore confidence in elections through transparency, security, and verifiability. Designed from the ground up with public trust in mind, VeritasVote combines tamper-evident hardware, open-source software, and voter-verifiable paper ballots into a complete election platform that anyone can inspect, audit, and improve. Its guiding principle is simple: elections should not depend on blind trust in private vendors or hidden systems.
At the core of VeritasVote is a dual-record voting process. Every vote is printed as a human-readable paper ballot, which becomes the official record of the election, while a matching encrypted digital cast vote record is securely stored for tabulation and auditing. This ensures that results can be quickly counted electronically while still being independently verified through paper recounts and risk-limiting audits. The system supports QR-assisted scanning for efficient recounts while preserving the paper ballot as the legal source of truth.
Security is built into every layer of the platform. VeritasVote uses air-gapped hardware with no wireless networking, secure boot processes, read-only operating environments, and tamper-evident enclosures. The software stack is designed to be minimal, reproducible, and fully auditable, reducing attack surfaces and making independent review practical. Cryptographic protections such as threshold decryption and public verification logs allow election officials, observers, and the public to confirm that votes were counted correctly without exposing voter choices.
Accessibility and usability are also central features of VeritasVote. The touchscreen interface is designed for clarity, multilingual support, and assistive technologies so that voters of all backgrounds and abilities can cast ballots confidently. Poll workers benefit from simplified setup procedures, guided workflows, and clear chain-of-custody tools that make precinct operations easier to manage.
