Patent Intelligence Module is an open source specification for transforming patent information into structured, actionable intelligence. It provides a modular framework for researching patents, organizing patent data, analyzing technical relationships, identifying trends, monitoring competitors, and discovering potential innovation opportunities. The module is designed to support researchers, inventors, organizations, analysts, and technology teams throughout the patent intelligence lifecycle.
The Patent Research and Analysis capabilities provide tools for patent search, import, classification, clustering, relationship mapping, and timeline analysis. Patents can be organized by technologies, classifications, inventors, assignees, families, citations, and other relationships, creating a structured view of complex patent landscapes. Claim extraction, prior-art discovery, similarity analysis, novelty scoring, and patent landscape analysis can then be used to identify important technical relationships and patterns.
The Patent Opportunity Discovery capabilities extend analysis beyond existing patent records to identify potential areas for innovation and strategic development. White-space analysis can reveal areas with limited patent activity, while emerging technology detection can identify developing technical fields and changes in patent activity. Innovation opportunity discovery and competitive patent monitoring help organizations understand where technologies are developing, where competitors are investing, and where potential opportunities may exist.
The Patent Draft Assistance capabilities provide structured support for developing patent-related documentation. The module can assist with patent outlines, claim suggestions, technical descriptions, and supporting documentation while maintaining a clear distinction between generated assistance and professional legal analysis. Through its modular architecture, the Patent Intelligence Module can also support additional capabilities such as evidence and provenance tracking, knowledge graphs, entity resolution, competitive intelligence, portfolio analysis, monitoring, and specialized patent research plugins.
This specification is released under the AGPL-3.0+ and is free to use with required Section 7 attribution. Attribution-free deployment is available through a Specification Branding License, with fees based on use and deployment scope.
