Vehicle Overlay System

The universal retrofit for modern mobility.

Vehicle Overlay System (VOS) is an open-source retrofit platform designed to modernize virtually any compatible vehicle by adding a secure digital intelligence layer without replacing factory systems. Instead of requiring a new car or deep OEM integration, VOS connects through standard interfaces such as OBD-II or CAN bus and operates as an independent overlay. This allows older and newer vehicles alike to gain advanced connectivity, diagnostics, and smart services while preserving the original driving systems and safety controls.

One of the core strengths of VOS is its flexible networking architecture. Vehicles equipped with VOS can use LTE, 5G, Wi-Fi, and optional satellite uplinks to stay connected in a wide range of environments. It also includes a built-in hotspot system for passengers and guests, with isolated network zones that keep personal devices separated from vehicle telemetry systems. Automatic failover routing, encrypted tunnels, and offline caching help maintain service even when signal quality changes or remote travel conditions limit connectivity.

VOS also introduces a modular AI layer that can run directly on local hardware inside the vehicle. This edge-based intelligence can power voice assistants, predictive maintenance alerts, navigation enhancements, route optimization, and system health monitoring without relying entirely on cloud services. Because the platform is modular, developers can expand it with additional tools such as fleet analytics, custom automation workflows, or privacy-focused in-car assistants. Local processing also improves responsiveness while reducing unnecessary data sharing.

Security and safety are foundational to the platform. VOS is designed with zero-trust principles, encrypted communications, secure boot support, and intrusion monitoring for both network traffic and vehicle data channels. Just as importantly, it is structured as an overlay system rather than a control system. That means it is intended to remain isolated from braking, steering, and throttle functions, keeping core driving operations separate from optional smart features.

Beyond individual drivers, VOS can also support fleet operators, commercial vehicles, and shared mobility services. Features such as portable user profiles, remote updates, fleet coordination tools, diagnostics dashboards, and vehicle-to-vehicle communication options make it adaptable for business use. By combining open-source transparency with modern connectivity and AI capabilities, Vehicle Overlay System aims to provide a practical upgrade path for modern mobility across existing vehicles.
