Case Documentation Tools

The Case Documentation Tools specification provides a modular framework for organizing, documenting, and preparing information associated with cases, incidents, investigations, disputes, claims, and other structured matters. It establishes a common foundation for managing case records while maintaining relationships between facts, events, evidence, documents, witnesses, participants, and communications. The specification is designed to keep information organized, traceable, and accessible without requiring dependence on a particular vendor or application.

The core modules provide essential capabilities including case management, fact collection, evidence tracking, document management, event and timeline management, participant and witness records, communication records, and audit and provenance tracking. These modules establish the fundamental data structures and relationships needed to create a comprehensive case record. The architecture also preserves distinctions between reported information, verified facts, allegations, observations, inferences, and unresolved information.

Optional plugin modules extend the core with specialized functionality such as advanced incident timelines, evidence tracking, document organization, event summaries, advanced fact collection, witness tracking, communication logs, and case preparation assistance. This modular approach allows implementations to start with the capabilities they need and add specialized workflows without changing the underlying case architecture.

The specification also supports an optional AI assistance layer for tasks such as extracting potential facts and events, generating draft timelines and summaries, identifying relationships or potential contradictions, finding missing documentation, and preparing case checklists. AI-generated information is intended to remain distinguishable from source material and verified case information, with human review maintained as an important part of the workflow. This makes Case Documentation Tools a flexible foundation for traditional documentation systems as well as AI-assisted case-management and preparation applications.

This specification is released under the AGPL-3.0+ license and is free to use with required attribution. Attribution-free deployments may obtain a Specification Branding License, with fees based on usage, deployment scope, and environment size.
